Nicky Kriel grows up with a chimp! (Ed)
Last week I sent out my first mailing using Mailchimp. It may not be that exciting for you, but for me it’s a major milestone. It is a milestone in two ways
- I feel grown up using a “proper” way of doing a mailing. There’s now an option to “unsubscribe” and I will be able to see how many people actually open my email. Yikes! This is the start of my world domination plan for my business.
- It marks the end of my procrastination about sending out the mailing. I have dragged my heels for months. I have been looking at which system to use and spent weeks fretting about how to put all the business cards into a database. What type of database? Should I use a CRM system? What should I write? I could have got on with it instead of dragging it out for ages. BUT it is done now! It may not be perfect. My boyfriend, friends and daughter had to help. But now I know next time will be easy.
It may only be a mailing, but it is my baby and maybe this is the birth of something big for my business.

Hi Nicky
I’m fortunate in having my own IT support in the form of my long-suffering partner, Andy. It was Andy who spent hours wrestling that mischievous chimp to publish my first newsletter, and what relief when it was finished!
Now another is overdue and I’m putting it off. I’m going to go and read yours in the hope it will get me moving…
Fortunately you only have to wrestle it once!
I just love the amount of data it gives you on your readers and what they clicked on and it’s good value at zilch for 500 subscribers. Loads of options for design as well.
The only really tricky thing is the online editor. Just have to import plain text as it converts word and other text editors into html and confuses the bananas out of it.
Hope you enjoy your successful domination of the planet!
WooOoo! World Domination! Sounds pretty fun! May I volunteer?
I just love the atmosphere around anything MC. Those guys are amaizing… And so are their customer, aren’t they? XD
All best,
Will
I am glad that I am not the only one going ape! (Sorry couldn’t resist monkeying around!) I still haven’t worked out how to resend the mailings that bounced due to mistyping! Any ideas Andy? I know next time will be easier.
There are two ways:
Set another list up and add all the people that bounced due to mistyping etc. Then send the original email to this list.
You can then add these people to the original list.
Or a more elegant way is to add these emails to the original list and send a mailing out to a segment of the list which includes these emails (segment by date added to list and you will have a segmented list with these emails in.
