I have been outwitted. Again. This time by a mouse. Is it my imagination or is the wildlife in my garden smarter than me? Please don’t bother to phone in with the answer to that by the way. Have you read Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson? If not I would recommend that you do so, especially if you aren’t that keen on change. It will only take you an hour or so to read and it may change your thinking.

If your cheese (sales, income etc.) is dwindling, it may be time to look for another source. By the way, I’ve added a new page to the website. It chronicles Wike v. Wildlife. The wildlife is extraordinarily committed to finding new cheese, or seed, or nuts. It is also most inventive. It strikes me that it adapts more quickly to changing circumstances than most of us. And I thought we were supposed to be the smart ones.

  1. I would try to help but I have to stand on this chair and shriek.

  2. Hens are the best David. They amuse you, look pretty are very easy to maintain and reward you each morning with a lovely speckled brown egg, sometimes with a garnish of straw and smeared hen poo for authenticity.

However where there is water and hen feed there are mice. Thankfully not too many I hasten to add. The only cheese nibblers in my house are 2 teenagers who take a huge chunk at a time and who are far too big to be threatened by a trap!

  3. No good Sue keeping chickens, she’d be on the chair rather often by the sounds of it. I was doing OK with the hens Dee until you got to the authentic bit!
